Conversations With You: Marion Bell – Aging, Caregiving and Finding Connection
In this episode of Conversations With You, Amanda speaks with longtime Comox Valley resident Marion Bell about aging, caring for a loved one, and finding connection through difficult times.
Marion shares the story of meeting her husband Peter and caring for him during his illness in the early months of COVID. We explore asking for help, the small gestures that make a difference, and how she continues to carry their relationship into her life today.
We also discuss growing older in the Comox Valley, from maintaining a home and navigating support services to staying connected as circumstances change.
Marion moved to Courtenay in 1977. A former teacher, mother, and keen gardener, she brings a personal perspective on how our needs and priorities change over a lifetime.
In 2020, Peter was diagnosed with multiple myeloma and died just weeks later, shortly after their 55th wedding anniversary. Marion reflects on caregiving and bereavement during pandemic restrictions, the kindness her family received, and the importance of telling people what help you need.
This is a conversation grounded in lived experience, with reflections for anyone supporting a loved one, experiencing loss, or thinking about growing older in their community.
