Finding Your People: Building Community Through the Comox Valley Newcomers Club
In this episode of Conversations with You, Amanda Fortier speaks with Anne, former president of the Comox Valley Newcomers Club, and Kim, the club’s incoming president.
Together they explore what it means to build friendships as adults, the importance of community after moving to a new place, and how the Newcomers Club has helped hundreds of women find connection and belonging in the Comox Valley over the past four decades.
Listeners will hear personal stories about settling into a new community, the value of saying “yes” to new experiences, and why meaningful friendships can make an unfamiliar place feel like home.
Founded in 1988, the Comox Valley Newcomers Club is a volunteer-run organization that welcomes women who have moved to the Comox Valley within the past two years. Through social activities, interest groups, volunteer opportunities, and monthly meetings, the club helps newcomers build friendships, discover the community, and establish a sense of belonging.
The club is part of the National Newcomers Association of Canada, a network of newcomer organizations across the country that support people as they settle into new communities.
Although the conversation focuses on the Newcomers Club, its message is universal: building community takes intention, and meaningful connections can happen at any stage of life.
