I am so ready for a Holiday Honky Tonk night! It will feature local favourites The Coal Dust Gang and The Broadfork Trio but also John Borra, a veteran Toronto folk-punk, doom-country, wonderfully weird ass musician. dodgy-country.tickit.ca |

This is my kind of Christmas “schmaltz”. We’ve got a band called “Angry Snowmans” who have been playing Christmas punk since 2008, She, A Danzig era Misfits band, and Search and Decanter, a 69-77 era Iggy Pop tribute band. All ages and over by 11. $20 or PWYC at the door.
-
This concert is called “Seasons of Love”. The Celebration Singers are a mixed choir, a treble voiced choir and a male voiced choir. |

This choir started in 1958 as a part of a night school program?! It has taken on various forms over those many years but their focus on Choral music elevates them from just another community choir. Plus their accompanist is amazing. $20 at the door.
-
Winter is a “thin time” in Gaelic tradition. This event is shaped by local musician Luke’s recent wanderings across Ireland. It will include ghostly ballads and winter airs.

Fontine is an indie-folk artist from Winnipeg. Her music is inspired by the prairie landscape and her Queer Indigenous identity. Zoon gets their name from Zoongide’ewin which means “bravery, courage and The Bear Spirit” in Ojibway. This promises to be a very memorable night. Tickets |

This group has been coming to the area for over 30 years. For most of those years I didn’t go see them because I thought I wouldn’t enjoy it. But then I heard they played a 5 foot long bass psaltery, the only functioning one in the world and one of the few functioning Organistrums... |

I am going to this because I have seen Nico Rhodes before and know that he is impressive. But this will likely include all the cheesy holiday charm that isn’t really for everyone. Literally the event says that they will play parts of The Messiah on the melodicas. You’ve been warned. Tickets |

There’s a rotating host band that begins each jam session with a short set Then guests, particularly jazz students, are invited to come and jam. The talented Beau Stocker serves as jam manager. There’s no cover, it runs from 6-8pm and it supports young musicians. A perfect way to spend a Thursday night! |

Here’s where I’m going to get my saccharine Christmas vibes. But it’s nostalgic for me. We used to see the Canadian Brass play every year in Toronto. Now, I see Festive Brass at St. Gs. I have learned, arrive early, it gets packed fast! Tickets |

This is Courtenay Little Theatre’s Panto. The costumes and set at last year’s show had me gobsmacked. I have no doubt this production will be good. Tickets

I bought tickets to this show purely because the event posting is just a guy holding a keytar. Matthew is an off-broadway actor now based in LA. Literally I know nothing other than, He plays keytar! Tickets |

I know I shouldn’t knock our community but I’m a little shocked that Felix Cartal has chosen to spend NYE here. I mean, this guy played alongside MSTKRFT in the noughties. Then his sophomore album debuted in the top 10 on electronic music charts. I know him best for Love Me with Lights, which has...

If you’ve been getting this list for a while you know that I am a devoted Devours fan. Last year’s NYE with him brought me so much joy. I also enjoyed Dollhead at this year’s Woodstove. Electropunk! I don’t know how I am going to do it, but by golly, I am going to figure...
-
But if EDM or electropunk isn’t your jam and you’d prefer Hank Williams on acid, then The Waverley has a wonderful offering. It will be lots of folky fun too. Tickets |
