There was a constant fear of danger at every turn, with roof collapses and flooding both common risks. The Cumberland coal seams had a reputation for expelling gas, increasing the likelihood of explosions.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">Everyone is invited to join the 40th Anniversary of Miners Memorial, which will host Juno-winning singer-songwriter Maria Dunn, live in concert on Thursday, June 11, and a labour history walking tour and Songs of the Workers on Friday, June 12. As per tradition, Saturday will start with a pancake breakfast, followed by graveside vigils, a community luncheon and \u201cCelebrating 40 Years\u201d &#8211; a history panel about labour activism and Miners Memorial.
